Before we go on sculpt our prim, you need to familiar with the camera view first.
Here is your tips. Just play around with it.
Middle Mouse – Free View
Wheel Mouse – Zoom in/out
Hold Shift+Middle Mouse – Move the 3D scene.
NumPad 1 – Front View Ctrl+NumPad 1 – Back View
NumPad 3 – Left View Ctrl+NumPad 3 – Right View
NumPad 7 – Top View Ctrl+NumPad 7 – Bottom View
NumPad 4 – Turn Left
NumPad 6 – Turn Right
NumPad 2 – Turn Up
NumPad 8 – Turn Down

One thing you should beware is that Blender is respond accord to your mouse position. Those camera commands (and other command show this tutorial) are working only when you mouse is over your 3D workspace.
1. Press NumPad 1 switch to front view camera.2. On the bar in center of your screen (below your 3d workspace windows) click on the Object Mode button.
3. Other Mode will show up in sub-menu as you can see in right image. Now select Sculpt Mode.
4. When in Blender sculpt mode, your cursor will change to circle.
5. Hover your mouse cursor over your model and press N on keyboard. the Sculpt Properties menu will popup inside 3d workspace.This is best tool in Blender to shape sculpted prim :)
At this point, you can play around with this option by changing your brush type and shape and then click on surface of sculpted prim to see the effect.
6. For this tutorial, We will make a very very simple head. I will start sculpting by use setting like thisDraw : Brush
Shape : Add
Size : 25
Strength : 25
Draw on middle of prim to form a nose shape.
PS. Don’t forget to change camera view at any angle as you like.
PS. When the result is not good you can press Ctrl+Z to undo the process.
7. Use same setting but click on Sub button instead of Add.Sub setting will invert the brush effect. In this case It will push the prim. Use this setting to create eye socket and mouth.
8. That’s simple enough for human head. Next I will show how to use Edit Mode to modify sculpted prim.


I think at some point I disabled something. My sphere is flat, no rectangles like yours and it will not edit at all. I’ve only used 3d modeling programs very little so consider me almost a full noob. Please let me know how to get the rectangles back so I can edit this dumb ball!
@steve I agree you maybe turn on some option without notice. Can you post some screenshot or maybe just start all over again :)
You need to add multires before you can start sculpting :)
@Bob Sculpt Mesh that has been add by Primstar Script without Subsurf enable will automatic enable multires by default.
So the sculpt prim you have on screen already enable Multires lv.3
