Tutorial 2 : Paint Sculptie Mesh with Vertex Paint

1. While you are painting your sculpted prim you can use all the selection tools in Blender. Here is some basic selection tools you could use..

Right Click – select individual vertex face.
Hold Shift + Right Click – select more than one face.

Press “B” – Rectangle select tool. Click and drag to form rectangle shape. Left Click to select and Right Click to deselect.

Press “B” two times – Ellipse select tool. Use your wheel mouse to resize the circle. Left Click to make selection and Right Click to deselect.

You should feel comfortable to control camera view. If not, read some of useful camera command from this tutorial.




Select all face with 'A' shortcut.2. We will start by paint the background to white (you could select whatever color as you like).

To select all faces on sculpted prim just hover your mouse over 3D mesh and press “A”.

Your mesh will change color as in the right screenshot. Those color showing that all face is selected.








Paint white color on sculpted prim.3. On the bottom part of Blender screen are full of icons and tabs. Don’t mess up! Always check that you’re in correct PANEL and TAB.

First, make sure you’re in Edit Panel (mark with yellow circle on the right screenshot) then look for to Paint Tab.

You’ll see the color picker in Paint Tab, click on it and Blender will pop up the color palette. Now choose the white color.

4. When you have your color selected, move your mouse away and the palette will disappear.

Next, Click on the SetVCol button under the color picker to paint the mesh. (If you choose white color, it may look like nothing happen because the default face background is already white)

5. Hover your mouse over sculpted prim again and press “A” to unselect all.





Select only the hair part of sculpt mesh.6. Press “B” to use the Rectangle select tool, Click and Drag to cover all the hair in screen.

You must rotate your view to the back and side view to be able to selected all hair part.









Paint the yellow color to sculpted prim.7. Do the same as step 3,4,5 to paint color to the hair. In this example I use yellow hair as you can see on the right image.





























Paint blue color to small part of the mesh.8. Next use any selection tool you comfort with to select the eyes, nose and mouth part then repeat step 3,4,5 again.
