nice tutorial, when i put image editor this bar where is the render changes and the render option dont appear :D

  2. Diogo says:

sorry for anoying but when i put bake nothing appear :DD
so i think i need help lol

  3. Chocolate Lemon says:

Seem like it’s my mistake :P I skip some small step.

After you click Render >> Bake Second Life Sculpties…. you need to click the small icon under the UV/Image Editor and you will see the sculpt texture. See screenshot here.

I’m out to bed for now, you can leave question I will respond back after wake up. Happy blending!

  4. Diogo says:

it works! i forgeted the library folder, lol my mistake.

    thanks for all

  5. roberto says:

The bake second life sculpties option doesn’t appear, how can i make it appear?

  6. Chocolate Lemon says:

Roberto, you need to install primstar script and python. Read from the first tutorial : Tutorial1 : Install Blender Sculptie Script

  7. dop Kidd says:

When I click the small icon under the UV/Image Editor to see the sculpt texture, it gives me a – totaly black – UV, named : cylindre 8×128 quadra, while the object appears normaly in the right side window.

My .obj imported and selected for this UV rendering action isn’t a 32×32 UV but as the name says a 8×128.

I don’t know what i could do to obtain a correct UV map of the object.

Also, as said on the primstar help text, i just tryed to select the object, and to File/Export/Second Life LSL, and export it, but it gives me the following error message : no root prim are selected to expot.

  8. Chocolate Lemon says:

Dop, As i understand you are import from OBJ file from some other model? I have zero experience in this situation, in my work i would do modeling in blender with .blend file or import only sculpt texture (.tga, .png) not the direct OBJ file imported.

  9. dop Kidd says:

Yes, because my target is to find a beter obj/tga “converter” or exporter than the one i use, thank you for your answer anyway. :)

  10. Ky says:

When I split my screen, I get one smaller view and one bigger view but once I choose the UV/Image editor option nothing happens. it stays the same.

    It’s pretty frustrating.

  11. Ky says:

Never mind figured it, apparently I was selecting the option on the wrong toolbar.

  12. Jen says:

I have done this and several other blender tutorials. I have the primstar scripts installed. I tried a reinstall of everything. First, if I don’t do Texture Paint as well as Vertex Paint, it gives me an error “face has no texture value”. If do Texture as well as Vertex, it goes through and bakes, but I get a solid black UV image map, not the rainbow colored one I expect.

    Please help.

  13. Tom says:

Hello.. I Installed blender today and i also downloaded python and the scritps to allow blender to bake Second life files. I am having trouble with image browser under the U/V image editor the thumbnail does not appear meaning i cannot see my sculpt map.. i need help :/ Thank you..

  14. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Jen What version of Primstar and Blender you are using? I’ve been using Blender since 2.45 but never found “face has no texture value” error before so I’m not quite sure too.

I recommended you try to bake the sculpt mesh without edit it. Let’s see if it’s work or not. (Meaning you follow the Tutorial 1 2 >> 5 without doing the Tutorial 3 and 4)

@Tom Normally when you press Render >> Bake Second Life Sculpties if no error happen you should get the sculpt map immediately. Make sure you already select the object before bake it.

If problem still continue you may need to check that primstar script is working or not. Test it by save any sculpt texture from this page then try to import into Blender with command File > Import > Second Life Sculptie (.tga)

  15. Tom says:

Thank you.. I think I know what the problem is now there seems to be a script error after i click bake second life sculpts, where it sais sculpt type i click on sphere and there it comes up with a ‘Python Script error’ i have tried re – installin python and replacing the scripts needed for SL useage, but the problem still occours.. It is very strange hope you can help thank you..

  17. Secretme says:

Okay i had the exact same problem as Tom, it showed me the error and i did everything chocolate told me. But again an error.

    Now, what did work!

If you want to make sculpties for second life, i found out i needed to click the “add” button in the top menu when you begin with your sculpt.
Then choose “mesh”, then “sculpt mesh” (should be at the bottom of the menu).
A little sphere will appear (you can change the shape, doesnt have to be a sphere) on your screen.
Then this turtorial comes in. If you do these steps what is written here on this new sphere, then it lets you bake second life sculpties and even the thumbnail appears . You now have a sculpty texture :D

It seems like that step was forgotten in this turtorial, or not? I dont know why i didnt read it in here.

  18. Tom says:

Hello again thank you for the advice Chocolate lemon i tried your advice but it refused to work… I then tried Secretme’s way the the add and mesh and that worked!! Thank you for all the help :)

  19. Chocolate Lemon says:

The whole tutorial was wrote into 6 chapter. You should follow it from 1 > 2 > 3.. so on “Add the mesh” part is explain in Tutorial2.

Read all 6 tutorials from here

  20. Julie says:

I want to create a house, so the shape i want to start with is a cube. But when i add a sculpt mesh, it does not give me that option. Is it not possible to start with a cube as a sculpt mesh? Please help!!!

  21. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Julie No, you must start by add sculpt mesh then model it to anything you want without add or delete vertex.

  22. ScottA says:

I am using blender 249.2, I am not seeing the Bake Secondlife Sculpties on the render menu, I have primstar installed and i have the import>secondlife sculpties in the main menu but not the Bake Secondlife Sculpties. Instead i am seeing Render>Bake Sculpt Messes.

    Any Suggestions?

  23. Chocolate Lemon says:

@ScottA What version of primstar are you using? This is tutorial made by Primstar 0.5.0. Are you installed newer version?

  24. Kuro says:

alright, so I’m using primstar and the instructions have enabled me to do everything basically just as I wanted… but then suddenly the uv map turned into a plain black image and wouldn’t go away… so I made a new one and started testing… and it seems as soon as I hit “image>reload” in the image editor window, it had the same effect… and I can’t figure out how to fix it, though I need to if I’m going to get it to SL now that I finished it @_@

  25. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Kuro Confirm. I have the same result if i hit Image > Reload maybe it’s a bug? :(

Actually I use to have this problem in some of my work when I click Bake Second Life Sculpties all I got is pure black color. Then I just reload the old backup file and continue my work till finish without problem. I believe it happen because I did something wrong while modeling but not 100% sure.

  26. Ann says:

    I Have little problem too…
I made all of the steps shown in thir Tutorial, and the final step makes me a problem… When i klick “save as…” button nothing appears, and i can’t find saved sculptie in my computer…
Maube it is a stupid problem, but im a Blender noobie.

  27. Scott says:

Hello everyone! I encourage everyone to use the Jass version of blender scripts as they work best.

Just search Jass Blender on google.

The proper way to get a sculptie export every time is…

    A. start with a sculpt mesh by clicking space bar, add, sculpt mesh. Sphere and torus bases work best.

    B. Use the vertices in edit mode to sculpt your item, or the sculpt mode.

    C. Go to render menu when ready to export, and choose “bake second life sculpties”. If your object has holes, do not choose “fill holes” of course. Just click okay.

you should see a sculpt map appear. Save it to your desktop and upload it to sl. When it’s in sl, use a sphere or torus stitching for the sculpt and it should appear as you intended.

  28. Nadi says:

Whatever i try, i always get an uv-Map of 4×4 oO I want at least 32×32 … where can i setup that ? If i use that 4×4 file its not worth anything lol

  29. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Ann Did sculpty texture appear in your screen or not when you click Bake Second Life Sculpties? Also please notice that texture will save to .TGA as default.

@Nadi When you choose Add Sculpt Mesh it will pop up menu which you can set X face and Y face. Normally for 32×32 size it need to set X and Y face to 8.

  30. Kita says:

Hi. I’ve read through all this and I’m not as… “in touch” with all this programing like some of you are. I understand the basics of what’s going on, but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here. I can make a sculpt using blenders new sculpt option. I have python installed and the second life sculpty script is in the correct folder. I can get to the part where you render it and choose “bake second life sculpties”, but when I choose what kind of sculpt it is (sphere, etc) it doesn’t do anything. I’ve reinstalled the scripts and it still does it. I choose the sculpt type and when I try to click something, blender doesn’t respond. Sometimes if I move the mouse, it won’t let me choose the type of sculpt and when I click the button below the UV image (the one with the arrows), nothing happens. Nothing shows up to click or anything.

Someone please help. I’m trying to work on a very important project and I’d like it done sooner than later.

Also if anyone knows how to create textures for blender sculpts, that would be great if you could please inform me how.

  31. Riki says:

I had a hard time getting the ‘split area’ to work. I kept selecting the option but the left-click to confirm would do nothing. Turned out it wouldn’t work because I still had my sculptie selected. I post this for other noobs :)

  32. Kita says:

I just found out that a friend of mine is having the same problem as me. We both have the latest version of blender, python and the second life script.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  33. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Kita I’m not sure are we talking the same thing but when I hit “Bake second life sculpties” this the menu will come up and I don’t have sphere option as you describe. I don’t have to select any type of sculpt at all.

This tutorial using Primstar 0.5.0 are you sure you using the same version?

    @Riki Thanks for a tips :)

  34. Kita says:

Yes. I am and I’m hitting the same button you are and that’s when the sculpty type screen comes up. I don’t know why it won’t work. Most recent version of blender, python and the primstar o.5.o. I have all of these. That screen for the sculpty type shows up only when I don’t move the mouse after clicking “OK” on the screen you have shown after clicking “Bake Second Life Sculpties”. If I move the mouse, it’s like blender doesn’t even register that I attempted to hit it. If I don’t move the mouse and choose a sculpty type, it just stops working on me. Blender won’t respond and I can’t hit any buttons on it. I have to go to the whole second screen that blender brings up (the black one with the computer code on it telling that it’s searching for python and what not) just to close blender.

  35. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Kita Here is my another guess. Are you try to convert your old work without re-build it from on sculpt mesh? This primstar script seem to work with sculpt mesh that setup with Add > Mesh > Sculpt Mesh only.

Here is example: (A bad setup..)
1 When I start Blender there is a default cube in the scene.
2 I just select that cube and hit the Render >> Bake Second Life Sculptie.
3 Sculptie Bake Option will come up then i press OK.
4 This Sculpt Type? menu show up and whatever I do from this will end up with python script error.

Above process does not work since you can’t bake script with normal mesh. It only work with sculpt mesh (read how to setup correct sculpt mesh) but if you confirm your setup using sculpt mesh and still have this problem I think you might modeling it incorrectly.

Try to do simple: (A good and easy setup to test your script is working…)
    1. Start Blender, select that default cube and delete it.
    2. press Spacebar >> Add > Mesh > Sculpt Mesh
    3. Sculpt Mesh Options appear just use normal (Mesh type:1, X =8, Y=8) and press OK.
    4. You have a new sphere on your screen.
    5. Select that sphere and hit the Render >> Bake Second Life Sculptie.
    6. The Sculptie Bake Option will come up then press OK.
    7. If nothing error you just switch to image browser and select Sphere_map

If you can get the sculpt texture from above process it mean your Blender and Primstar script work fine you just need to re-modeling your mesh with new Sculpt Mesh. Yes, it hurt to do your work all over again but that what I would do myself if I can’t find any better solution.

Tips: While I modeling my mesh I save backup very often (5-10 minute/backup) and maybe every half hour i will try to bake texture and see the result. This will prevent me from any error that might occur while modeling.

Hope this can help a bit.

  36. Kita says:

… -_- I really feel like an idiot now. See, I knew about the sculpt mesh part of the tutorial, but I didn’t think that was required. I understand now. It’s working for me now that I did it that way. It does suck that I have to redo my sculpt all over again, but it’s not that hard, what with blenders sculpt mode. Thanks a lot for the help. I’ll be sure to let my friend now right away. ^^

  37. Kelci says:

This might be a total noob question but can you bake multiple meshes into one sculpted texture?

  38. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Kelci nope, you can only bake one mesh per one sculpt texture.

  39. flyfamilyguy says:

Well, I installed the primstar scripts and everything was fine; I was making Second Life sculpties. But NOW every time I go up to “Save As” its an ‘Untitled.blender’ file instead of a .tga file. It goes through the baking process and all but how do i get it to save as a .tga? thanks!

  40. Chocolate Lemon says:

@flyfamilyguy Are you sure you using Image >Save As from UV/Image Editor menu (see last pic in tutorial) do not use File > Save As from top left menu.

  41. Ccc89 says:

My problem looks like that: I make everything from tutorial, and problem is that – after I push bake, in image browser I don’t have any sculpted texture :/ Why??

  42. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Ccc89 Are there any error pop-up or anything? Maybe try re-check is the script working by Add Mesh then just Bake Texture without modeling (bake a default sphere) and let’s see is the bake command working or not?

Most of the case if you’ve edit mesh wrong way the bake command will not work. so let’s check it first is this the script error or by fault modeling.

  43. Ccc89 says:

I checked the script, it works. Then I add new mesh, on that its work, but why on my modeling mesh not?

  44. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Ccc89 I guess most common mistake modeling sculpty is that they using command they should not be using.

Blender may have kinds of 50 (or more) powerful modeling command but only less than 15 command are working with sculpty. Why? because most of modeling tool Blender will add/delete vertex in mesh but sculpty cannot be add or remove any vertex.

#The way you work with sculpty is to…#
    1. Add mesh (only use mesh from Primstar menu).
    2. Use any modeling tool that’s not add/remove vertex at all.
    3. Bake texture using bake command.
    4. Done!

The tools I using are Sculpt Tool, G,R,S (all simple manipulator), Proportional Tools is OK to use. All of these modeling tools will modify mesh without add/delete anything and work well with sculpty. They could be more tools you can use but you need to experience it by yourself.

To do simple check: When you first add sculpt mesh, select it and look at information at top menu you will see something like Ve:1056 | Fa:1024 (this is example for Sphere 8x8x2). This mean sculpt mesh have 1056 vertices and 1024 faces. When you finished model sculpt mesh these number must be the exactly the same. It can’t be more (1057+ vertices or 1025+ faces) also can’t be lower (than 1055vertices and 1023faces).

    #My suggestion#
    1. Save a lot of backup. If anything went wrong you won’t have to start do it from scratch.
    2. Bake randomly (to test). When you finish modeling some part of mesh then Save, and Bake. This will guarantee your mesh still able to export to sculpty texture.

When I first start learning to do sculpty I fail so many many time by add/delete vertex by no mean. Did you know in Blender key “E” will activate “Extrude” command and it’s one of the tool that add vertex. So if you hand unlucky enough to press “E” by no mean and you continue modeling without Undo it (by Ctrl+Z) Boom! your work just become useless. This is why it so important to save a lot backups!

Hope this info can help, if not you should upload .blend file and post here I will check it for you.

  45. MM brave heart says:

to solve the black UV problem make a new project
delete every thing from it “u can test a simple sculpt mesh 1st to make sure scripts works fine” then open file menu and click append or link , look for your orginal project then select object select your object and hit import
do the rest as the totorial say .
worked for me and saved my project
    not sure wat was wrong.

  46. Mdee says:

*Slumps and shakes head* For a day and a half i have been desperately attempting to install everything to get started in using Blender. Whilst i’m a reletive “noob” as far as modelling is concerned, i feel experienced enough to aquire a working version of a program on my computer.
However, i think i now know how a safecracker feels, trying desperately to get the right combination before even getting the door open.
I like many above have read tutorials, and just when you think you’ve “cracked” it, another problem occurs.
My current problem is exporting to secondlife….I followed the steps of the earlier post, in simply creating a single sphere to test, however upon hitting “Render”, the Secondlife Sculpties option is not available.
Both primstar and python are successfully installed, and i have tried as many helpful links/posts/tutorials as i can before seeking help.
Any good safecrackers out there? :)

  47. Chantelle says:

    Arghhhh I worked so hard

I do believe I might have pressed E at one point, no, I did. If this is why I am so mad at myself haha! my sculpt was so pretty, and it took ages D: D: D:

  48. Capucine says:

When i save the texture, it doesn’t save as TGA, it saves as .blender , and i don’t know how to convert it to tga :/
Could you help me with it ?

  49. Chocolate Lemon says:

@Capucine use Image > Save As in the bottom bar not File > Save As on the top left

  50. seer says:

I have been using the Jass version of Blender for months with no problems BUT now when I bake a sculpt map having set the size to 512 x 512, it renders the Map at 64 x 64 .

No matter what I do , the sculpt map only ends up as a 64 x 64 texture.
Please can you help me .
    thank you

  51. Zore says:

When I hit the bake button, the debug console says “bake failed” and nothing more happens. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Help!

  52. Mike says:

Okay, every time I try to do this I get a message saying that the sculpt bake failed. Nothing happens. The object I’m trying to convert into a sculpt map was created on a fan site, but I don’t think the creator had Second Life sculpts in mind when he or she made it. How would I apply a mesh to the existing project without having to start over from scratch?

  53. Serena says:

Stupid question but I’m able to everything perfectly fine when using Blender, I downloaded the Jass version which uses 2.49 or something or another, and what stumps me every time is when I go to save my creation, I make sure I hit Image -> Save As and type whatever name I want to name the object, but when I go to search for it it’s not anywhere on my hard drive yet in Blender you can see that it’s saved.

Anyone else having this issue before?
