Blender Camera Control

Here are the list of camera commands in Blender we use it to control view of 3D workspace. Practice and remember it!

For new user you should always Watch Your Mouse Position make sure your mouse cursor are over the 3d workspace while using these commands since Blender only respond accord to where your mouse position are.

Screenshot in this tutorial are using Blender 2.49



Object Mode and Edit ModeMiddle Mouse : Free View
Wheel Mouse : Zoom in/out
Hold Shift+Middle Mouse : Panning 3D scene.

NumPad 1 : Front View
Ctrl+NumPad 1 : Back View

NumPad 3 : Left View
Ctrl+NumPad 3 : Right View

NumPad 7 : Top View
Ctrl+NumPad 7 : Bottom View

NumPad 4 : Turn Left
NumPad 6 : Turn Right
NumPad 2 : Turn Up
NumPad 8 : Turn Down

Tab : shortcut for switch between Object Mode and Edit Mode.



Vertex/Edge/Face ModeAlt + Tab : Switch between Vertex/Edge/Face Mode (only available in Edit Mode).

You could click on the buttons on the center bar under your 3D workspace to switch between these modes too (Orange Circle).













Occlude Background Geometry ButtonOcclude Background Geometry Button : You will find this button next to Vertex/Edge/Face switching button (Yellow Cycle) which available in Edit Mode only. This function will hide all vertices behind the mesh make the modeling process much more easier in some case.

Home Key : Auto zoom to show all objects in the scene.

“.” Key (use key near you NumPad) : Center your view to the selected object.

“/” Key (use key near you NumPad) : Take your view to focus on your current selected object without showing anything else.




3D Cursor3D Cursor : When you Left Click anywhere on the 3D workspace it will drop 3D Cursor over that point. 3D Cursor is very useful when you use it with other command and also you can use it to control camera view too.

“C” Key : Press “C” to move the camera view to center of your current 3D Cursor.

Shift + “C” Key : This command will move your 3D Cursor to the center of the 3D scene and also zoom the camera view out to cover all objects in the scene.



Wireframe and Solid Draw Type“Z” Key : Shortcut for switch between Wireframe Draw Type and Solid Draw Type.














Perspective and Orthographic viewNumPad 5 : Shortcut for switch between Perspective and Orthographic view.














Clipping View ToolAlt + “B” : Clipping View Tool, Your cursor has change to moving crosshair, now Left Click to draw rectangle over the part you want focus. When you release your mouse the part of unselect mesh will be hide from the view.

You can cancel this effect by press Alt + “B” again.









Hide Selected Face“H” Key : Hide Selected Face Make any vertex,edge or face selected and press “H” Key to hide them from the current view.

You can return to normal view by pressing Alt + “H”.

You could also call this command form the More Tab (Yellow Circle) inside Button Windows.
